Low fat food cooked at home is not only a way to lose weight but it is also the best way to keep heart diseases at bay. Low fat recipes are basically prepared with lean meat and fish, fresh vegetables and a relatively low quantity of oil.

Following a low fat diet does not mean compromising on taste, these recipes are equally appetizing and also easy to make. Some scrumptious low fat recipes include:



Baked fish

This recipe is a permutation of green vegetables and fish. It is a low calorie, low fat recipe which contains all the necessary nutrients the body requires.

Ingredients required:

700 ml vegetable stock

500 grams fish fillets

500 grams broccoli, blanched

1 tablespoon olive oil

3 tablespoons bread crumbs

¼ teaspoons dried mixed herbs

Method and preparation:



1.
Assemble the broccoli florets at the base of a baking dish, followed by the fish fillets, pour the vegetable stock, and top with bread crumbs.



2. Sprinkle olive oil and herbs and bake in a preheated oven at 200* C for 30 minutes. This dish serves about 4 persons and tastes best when served with steamed vegetables.

Grilled Chicken



This low fat recipe comprises of some of the most exquisite flavors and can even be served for a fancy dinner party.

Ingredients required:

750 grams lean chicken breasts, (boneless and skinned)

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 fresh pineapple, slices

½ cup mint leaves, finely chopped

1 teaspoon lemon rind

2 teaspoons lemon juice

2 lemon wedges

Salt and pepper to taste

Method and preparation:

1. Pound the chicken to half inch thickness and season with salt and pepper. Mix the lemon juice, olive oil and the lemon rind and brush the pineapples with the mixture. Add mint leaves to the remaining mixture and set aside.

2. Preheat the grill to 200 *C and grill the pineapples, until brown. Grill the chicken until brown or cooked. To serve, arrange the chicken, grilled pineapple and lemon wedges on a plate and serve hot.

Grilled Vegetables

Vegetables are the best source of vitamins, calcium, and iron and are also rich in antioxidants. This recipe extremely healthy and contains large amounts of dietary fibres which enhance digestion.

Ingredients required:



4 medium sized potatoes cut in cubes

2 carrots, sliced

2 cups broccoli florets

1 cup cauliflower florets

Olive oil

Cherry tomatoes

2 tablespoons butter

¼ teaspoon mixed herbs

Salt and pepper to taste



Method and preparation:

1.Grease a piece of cooking foil with butter and arrange all the vegetables on it, season with herbs salt and pepper and a dash of olive oil.

2. Cover the vegetables with another piece of greased foil and grill on a preheated grill for half an hour. This recipe serves 4 and tastes best when served hot.
