Difficulty Level: Easy

Preparation Time: 15-20 Minutes
Ingredients
Following Are The Ingredients Required To Make This Salad

1 tin canned tuna

1 spoon salt

1 spoon ground black pepper

1 spoon crushed paprika

1 spoon roasted cumin powder

2 spoons freshly squeezed lime juice

1-2 ripe tomatoes

1 Serrano chili finely chopped

1 spoon chopped cilantro leaves

1 spoon reduced-fat mayonnaise

1 red onion finely chopped

1/4th cup bell peppers finely chopped

Procedure

To make this salad, first ready the salsa. Place finely chopped tomatoes in a bowl. To this add finely chopped onions, chopped cilantro leaves and chopped Serrano chilies. Add the spice powders such as paprika powder and roasted cumin powder.

Add salt to taste and mix all ingredients very well. Lastly, add the fresh lime juice and mix well. Your salsa for the salad is ready. You can increase or decrease the amount of Serrano chilies used depending on how spicy you want your salad to be.

To make the salad, drain the excess water from the tuna and place the tuna in a mixing bowl. It is important that you use tuna canned in water as this will make the salad lighter and will also ensure that the tuna has a neutral taste so that the flavors of the salsa stand out. Mash the tuna with a fork, ensure however that the tuna does not become too mushy.

Next, add the chopped bell peppers and mix well. Season the tuna with light salt and freshly ground black pepper. Next, add the reduced-fat mayonnaise and mix well. Lastly add the prepared salsa and give all ingredients a good mix. This Mexican tuna salad tasted best when served chilled. Hence, refrigerate the prepared salad for at least 3-4 hours prior to serving.

To serve this salad, line the plates with fresh lettuce leaves and place a generous helping of the prepared tuna salad on each plate. You can serve plain or flavored tortilla chips as a crunchy accompaniment to this tuna salad. You can add more veggies if you want to give this salad more texture. Chopped arugula, baby spinach, diced olives, etc. can be added to this tuna salad.

You can also chopped walnuts or almonds to give this salad a crunchy texture. We have made this tuna salad using red tomato salsa. You can also use roasted green tomatillos to make salsa.
